Discussion

Leaders use systems-based practice to empower other nurses. Considering your current or former clinical setting, share how you will use principles of systems-based practice to grow in your role as a leader in nursing. Include a scholarly outside source to support your answer.

SOLUTION  

Our Masters textbook states that a systems-based practice in nursing considers the larger system within the smaller system. In example a provider relies on the nurses and other members of his patient’s care team to adequately provide care for his patient. I see this daily as a charge nurse on my med-surg observation floor. I am a leader within my hospital. The nurses who work alongside me are also leaders.

In my experience as a charge nurse, I have found that a transformational leadership style works best. Transformational leaders are successful because they inspire others through their passion, vision, and enthusiasm. This results in employees who are engaged and productive (Masters, p. 330).
