SOLUTION

1)      Provide a brief synopsis of the study:

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of documentation of social determinants of health (SDH) in electronic health records and the correlation of SDH to suicide ideation and attempt. Data for the study was collected from the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) Region 4 from October 1, 2015 through September 30, 2016.

The analytic sample consisted of 293,872 patients. The study found that, “adverse SDH exhibited dose-response-like associations with suicidal ideation and suicide attempt” (Blosnich, et al., 2019, p. 1759). The odds of suicidal ideation were increased by 67% for each additional adverse SDH and odds of suicide attempt increased by 49%. Results of this study suggest that the integration of SDH data in electronic health records could improve prevention of suicide in the Veteran population.

2)      Identify 2 characteristics of the study that demonstrate credibility, and explain your rationale:

This study collected data in an unbiased manner within the past five years, making it an objective and current study, thus increasing the credibility of the study. The use of three primary collection sources for data (ICD-10 codes, VHA stop codes, and VA Health Factors Codes) also increases credibility by increasing study population size. Given the large sample size, statistical significance was assessed at the p<.01 level, and all adjusted odds ratios (aOR) included 99% confidence intervals.….please click the purchase button below to access the entire solution at $10
