SOLUTION 

Although our patients come to us in need of guidance, education, and care, many are hesitant to make necessary health changes. It is important to assess and address all patients with a sensitive and understanding approach to determine their level of willingness to participate in a patient care plan. The article that I selected discusses the effective incorporation of Motivational Interviewing (MI) into nursing practice. Motivation interviewing (MI), is a form of clinical communication that helps the nurse determine a patients motivation level and willingness to make changes to improve their health. “MI elicits patients’ present concerns, helps them become aware of their ambivalence about their behaviors, and motivates them to make behavioral change” (Droppa & Lee, 2014). This technique helps provide the patient with important health information during non-threatening conversation as it facilitates change in health and behavior. It provides them with a level of understanding and support as it empowers them to make the changes that they have discovered.
