Week 6 Discussion: Regression Analysis

Suppose you are given data from a survey showing the IQ of each person interviewed and the IQ of his or her mother. That is all the information that you have. Your boss has asked you to put together a report showing the relationship between these two variables. What could you present, and why?

SOLUTION 

I would use the Regression Analysis to determine the existence and nature of the relationship between the variables. In this case, mother’s IQ would be x (independent variable), and y – (dependent variable) interviewed person’s IQ (child’s). I would use the graph – Scatter Plot – for demonstrating the relationship, along with calculations to understand the details of the relationship if any. Let’s assume there is a positive relationship between the variables.
