Using the Internet, locate and read Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech given in Washington D.C., August 1963. The speech became one of the most repeated speeches in American history, and it served as a source of inspiration for thousands of people. It was supporting racial equality and rejected racial segregation. This paper will be discussing the civil rights movement, its impact on the nation, with a particular focus on minority groups. It will also discuss the application and relevance of activists’ activities for the current world.

The Impact of Civil Rights Movement on the Nation

The Civil Rights Movement was one of the most important events in changing the American nation. It helped to address the discrimination against African Americans and increase their rights in America. The Movement supported African Americans in all areas of life, including work and social affairs. The immigrants were able to access opportunities that were previously unavailable for them (Corbatt et al, 2017). For example, they were already able to obtain education in universities, which greatly increased their abilities to grow as professionals and build a career. Another improvement was in politics. Before the Civil Rights Movement, black people were not able to vote and did not benefit from the laws that existed for other people. Due to the Movement, everybody received the right of voting, thus increasing the participation of African Americans in political life.

While the Movement provided black people more opportunities, it had a big impact on the whole nation. Aiken, Hanges & Salmon (2013) note the movement did not immediately change the landscape of equality in the American workplace, it signaled a fundamental shift in the treatment of racial and gender diversity.
