For a cultural group different from your own, list three culturally based behaviors that may not promote health and explain how you would provide respectful health promotion education to that cultural group.

SOLUTION 

One cultural group that is different than mine is the ones of the Chinese. In their culture if one were to be diagnosed with a mental illness, it would have brought a lot of shame and guilt to the family. A practice the Chinese do is that they hold back from discussing any of the symptoms of a mental illness. As a nurse, I would highly emphasize for one to talk with me, and truly express how they feel. I would build that rapport with them and obtain their trust. I would make sure that they know that anything they say will stay between us. Us as health care workers need to make sure that the patients can always trust us with anything. I would tell them that the only way I would be able to assist them with any type of care is if they told me the whole truth. We need to make certain that when we are doing our assessments, we are receiving nothing but the truth.

Another cultural practice is one of the Hispanics. Elder Hispanics tend to believe that it was a message from God for the reason of the illness. They highly believe in home remedies and folk medicine.
